Dunalley

Dunalley hotel

Dunalley is a small fishing village approximately 15 minutes drive from Primrose Sands (please note: there are 2 ways to drive to Dunalley from The Beach Escape. Part of the drive on the shorter route is on an unsealed road).

Located on the way to Port Arthur, it sits on the banks of the man-made Denison canal that was constructed between 1901 and 1905. The canal was built to shorten the trip for fishing boats heading out to sea or coming to or from Hobart and the east coast. The canal is approximately 800 metres long, 34 metres wide and 3.9 metres deep at high tide. With the differing tidal forces on each side of the canal there can be a very strong current seen flowing through it.

If you are hungry we recommend the Dunalley Hotel for lunch or dinner. It is a pub with a country feel and lots of character and history within its walls. There are also a number of other eateries in Dunalley including the Dunalley Bakery and the Dunalley Fish market.

If the kids need some exercise, there is a great little playground beside the foreshore at Imlay St.

As you drive from Primrose Sands to Dunalley, keep an eye out for the oyster farms where Pacific Oysters are grown in the pristine waters.

Marion Bay

Near Dunalley is Marion bay. It is a large ocean facing bay with a long white beach which is great for fishing and for walking.
